Gluten-free Breakfast

breakfast

This morning we went into Cambridge for breakfast at Bills in Green Street and today’s picture shows my breakfast with my husband’s in the background. Unfortunately they got several things wrong today, including my husband’s coffee in a glass, which cracked at the table. White bread instead of brown for my husband and fried eggs instead of scrambled. I sent mine back, but the scrambled egg was very slopping and the bacon underdone. However, they gave us two extra coffees free and only charged for one breakfast. A different chef was being trained ready for Christmas and clearly was not up to standard.

We then went to the Hotter shop as I wanted a pair of black shoes. I bought two different pairs as they were buy one, get one-half price. I also saw a lovely handbag and leather gloves, but did not buy those today. We then had coffee in Starbucks, before going to Addenbrookes this afternoon for an informal group session where they discussed what patients waiting for knee surgery are expected to do. This involves making sure that patients are controlling their weight and doing some simple exercises. They also explained what happens once in hospital and showed us one of the knee replacements.

Birthday Cake

It is our daughter’s birthday today and as we will not see her today, (she is in Mexico) we decided to celebrate her birthday without her. We started in Bill’s in Cambridge and while my husband had a full English breakfast, I had gluten-free cake with strawberries and cream. We then spent the day walking around taking pictures with various stops for refreshments.

She was planning to have several cocktails this evening, so I had some alcoholic pink fizz to celebrate, she is six hours behind us, so we were asleep by the time she was celebrating.

Today’s picture is my cake in Bill’s Restaurant in Cambridge.

We spent most of the day at Addenbrookes Hospital, but not at any clinics. We had two meetings, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. On the way home we decided to go to Bishop’s Stortford to attempt, once again, to sort out the problem with our kitchen.

This was a bad move, firstly the person we needed to see was not there and secondly, the M11 was closed to traffic, due to an overturned lorry, which also caught fire, blocking both lanes of the North bound carriageway, so the traffic was diverted, as it usually is, through the villages. As I approached the Birchanger roundabout, the rain was torrential and car drivers were blocking the roundabout and driving in a dangerous way, in an attempt to get to the motorway, probably not realising that it was closed, or they may have been going South.

Instead of coming straight home, via another route, we decided to have dinner out and went to Bill’s restaurant in Bishop’s Stortford. I had my camera with me all day, but did not take any pictures, so today’s blip is of Bill’s restaurant taken with my iPhone. We went there a couple of weeks ago and almost went to Carluccio’s, which is opposite. I later found out that my grandson was there with his new girlfriend (the family have not yet met here) so perhaps it was as well that we did not go there.
