My Husband and the Ice Cream

GOG

This morning we went into Bishop’s Stortford so that I could post my nomination form to stand as a Governor for Addenbrookes at the main Post Office. Our Post Office is in our village shop and is unreliable and we have had post disappear or delivered ten days after we have posted it.

If you want to vote for me you need to be a member of the Addenbrookes Trust, you can join here https://secure.membra.co.uk/CUHApplicationForm/

We had breakfast in Café Thyme and then after posting my forms we got some shopping. It was such a lovely day that we decided to have lunch while we were out and then a walk in the Castle Gardens.

The ice cream van was nearby so we had an ice cream, an unusual occurrence for us; we sat on a bench to eat them. Shortly after today’s picture was taken, a toddler, walking past with his mother, had a tantrum and threw his ice cream at my husband; he aimed well, the ice cream landed on my husband’s knees!

Jacket Potato and a Barn Owl

Today’s picture is of my jacket potato and cheese lunch, as we left Café Thyme we met Blast and had a chat. Then we had a walk around the town before meeting some Mensa friends in Waterstones Bookshop.

It was cold, but dry all day except as we drove home in the late afternoon it started to rain.

I have also included a rather blurry picture, it was getting dark when I saw this Barn Owl sitting on the shed roof over by our far boundary. I have seen Tawny Owls in the garden, but never a Barn Owl, so this had to be records.

Avocado, Brie and Cranberry

It has been quite cold and windy, but there has been some sunshine; the rain that was forecast appears to have passed us by.

We went to Bishop’s Stortford this morning, which was the first proper outing, other than visiting the GP Surgery, for my husband since his recent operation. We started in Cafe Thyme where we had breakfast, which is my picture today. We pottered about getting some odds and ends and then before coming home we visited Café Thyme for cake and coffee.

Mensa Meeting

It was very frosty again this morning although by the time we went out in the late morning the frost had melted from the cars. We had a Mensa meeting in the afternoon at Waterstones Bookshop in Bishop’s Stortford, before the meeting we had a snack lunch in Café Thyme.

Today’s picture was taken of our reserved table, before the other members arrived, so shows our coffee and cake. It was an exceptionally good meeting with lots if discussion on a very topical event.

Bacon and Avocado Sandwich

After the Ocado lorry had been we went into Bishops Stortford for some odds and ends that are not available from the supermarket. We had breakfast in Café Thyme where today’s picture was taken of my Bacon and Avocado sandwich. We did some shopping and stopped for coffee before coming home in Waterstones café. On the way home we stopped for more coffee at our daughter’s home.

It was very frosty this morning, again about minus six degrees Celsius, but then the sun shone although the frost remained all day in the parts of the garden that remain in the shade.

Lunch

Today we had a meeting in Bishop’s Stortford so we decided to go in a little earlier and have lunch in the South Street Pantry. The sun shone briefly this morning, but since then it has been dull, overcast and raining, so today’s picture is of my lunch; jacket potato with cheese, beans and mixed leaves. Although I took a proper camera with me, it was raining when we arrived so it was left in the car; this was taken with my iPhone.

It was exceedingly cold this morning, but we went into Bishop’s Stortford, mainly to get a refund on an order I placed on 12 December. I have telephoned them several times and I seem to get passed around, so today I asked for my money back. The new builder, when I find one that I think might be competent can get his own supplies.

We decided to go into the town and have breakfast at Café Thyme, we had a quick walk around but it was so cold that we retreated to Waterstones Café to get warm before we came home.

Today’s picture was taken during our walk, the River Stort, not visible, is on the left-hand side of the picture.

Skeletons

The venetian blind that we ordered last week had arrived in-store and so we collected it today; there will be little time during the coming week to go anywhere. I am working all day on two days and as it is half-term Victoria will be coming to help me in the garden or my husband in the kitchen. One day I will have a new kitchen!

Today’s picture was taken in the South Street Pantry and is of one of their Halloween decorations, it was either this picture or my gluten-free bacon sandwich. Before coming home I purchased some more wool, needles and odds and ends and had coffee in Waterstone’s café.

Breakfast – Gluten-free Crumpets

The weather did not know whether to rain or shine, so we decided to go to Bishop’s Stortford. It rained on the way there, but for most of the time it was dry and sunny. We went to the South Street Pantry for breakfast and today’s picture is of my gluten-free crumpets, with berries and golden syrup. My husband had a bacon sandwich. We purchased some items and then went into Waterstones café for coffee and in his case, a slice of Earl Grey Fruit Tea Loaf.

My wrist is still bandaged, but it is not causing any problems and does not hurt at all. The thumb on my left-hand is no longer numb therefore the pressure has been taken off of the nerve.

Breakfast and Cake

breakfast

As today looked as though it would be a nice day we went into Bishop’s Stortford early for breakfast. We went to The South Street Pantry and I had a full English breakfast, exactly the same as everyone else although my sausage was also gluten-free, not something I usually get with my breakfast. Later during the morning I had a gluten-free raspberry and coconut slice in Waterstones. You may think we eat out a lot; I am making up for lost time! During the first forty years of my life it was not something I was able to do. After doing a little shopping, we came home. The sun shone until late afternoon when it clouded over and threatened rain.

Today’s picture shows the breakfast and I think this is the best gluten-free breakfast that I have had in many years. Also, below is a picture of the Raspberry and Coconut slice and coffee.
