Houseboats

First thing this morning we watched the Formula One; I shall make no further comment on the race.

Then we went in to Bishop’s Stortford for breakfast at The South Street Pantry. We had a walk along the towpath, before returning to Marks and Spencer to get some fruit; I also bought a jacket that I liked the look of. Then we finished with coffee in Waterstones café. Their cake of the day was a gluten-free Vanilla cake, which was similar to a Victoria Sponge; it had to be sampled.

Today’s picture is of two boats moored together. The one nearest the towpath did not have any windows so I am assuming that it is a cargo boat and that the occupants live on the other houseboat.

It was quite cold on the towpath, but warmer in town and the sun has been shining for most of the time; quite a nice day for the beginning of October.

Coffee

As it was a lovely day we decided to go out for breakfast and went to The South Street Pantry in Bishop’s Stortford. We have not been there before, but they have gluten-free bread, so better than some of the other places. Unfortunately they use Genius bread, not my favourite bread, but at least they had some; they also have gluten-free cake.

Today’s picture is of my coffee. I took at picture of my scrambled egg and smoked salmon on toast, but it tasted better than it looked, so coffee it is.

Once again the weather was not good for August, we have had rain, high winds and sunshine. Despite this we went into Bishop’s Stortford starting with breakfast at the Rosey Lea café; this was not too as good a standard as usual. We then purchased the items we wanted and while my husband drank tea in Sainsbury’s café I took it all back to the car. Then we had more coffee (and cake for me) in Waterstones, before taking a walk along the towpath where today’s picture was taken. My husband’s legs were not as good as he thought they might be, so we had more coffee in Waterstones, before purchasing two new ‘loungers’ for our balcony.

Graffiti

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe went to Bishop’s Stortford as we needed a few things and started with breakfast in the Rosey Lea café. I had a toasted gluten-free Brie and cranberry sandwich followed by gluten-free carrot cake. After shopping we took a walk by the river, where I took today’s picture of some graffiti. We then went into Waterstones café for coffee and cake before coming home. I had a sticky, sickly chocolate cake and felt rather sick after I had eaten it! I blamed this on the heat, rather than me being a pig!

It has been very hot, so on my return I did not do very much, but stayed in our North lounge, which is usually the coolest place in the house.

Bill’s Restaurant

We spent most of the day at Addenbrookes Hospital, but not at any clinics. We had two meetings, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. On the way home we decided to go to Bishop’s Stortford to attempt, once again, to sort out the problem with our kitchen.

This was a bad move, firstly the person we needed to see was not there and secondly, the M11 was closed to traffic, due to an overturned lorry, which also caught fire, blocking both lanes of the North bound carriageway, so the traffic was diverted, as it usually is, through the villages. As I approached the Birchanger roundabout, the rain was torrential and car drivers were blocking the roundabout and driving in a dangerous way, in an attempt to get to the motorway, probably not realising that it was closed, or they may have been going South.

Instead of coming straight home, via another route, we decided to have dinner out and went to Bill’s restaurant in Bishop’s Stortford. I had my camera with me all day, but did not take any pictures, so today’s blip is of Bill’s restaurant taken with my iPhone. We went there a couple of weeks ago and almost went to Carluccio’s, which is opposite. I later found out that my grandson was there with his new girlfriend (the family have not yet met here) so perhaps it was as well that we did not go there.

Tigers in Bishop’s Stortford

We went into Bishop’s Stortford for some batteries for my kitchen scales, which we forgot to get yesterday and also to get some fruit and vegetables, as I did not have the Ocado lorry this week.

We started at the Rosie Lea with breakfast; I also had gluten-free carrot cake. Then we walked along the towpath. On the way back we visited a Sunday market, which contained a lot of people selling junk and this chap selling tigers; so this is my blip for today.

Warm and sunny although cold in the windy areas.

Castle Gardens

BSThis morning my husband had to make running repairs to the tap in the kitchen, it has failed twice now in the past few days, so we went into Bishop’s Stortford again today to get a new part.

We had breakfast in the Rosey Lea and I also had gluten-free carrot cake; there is nothing wrong with cake for breakfast!

It was rather cold, but we still had a walk by the river although my husband got very cold, so we had more coffee in Sainsbuiry’s café, before coming home. Although it had been dull and over cast all day as we came home the sun decided to shine.

Today’s picture was taken in the Castle Gardens in Bishops Stortford, in the United Kingdom.

The Star

BSAfter I finished working today we went into Bishops Stortford for lunch. We went to the Rosey Lea although my husband was reluctant, remembering that it had not been very good in the past. It now has new owners and it had gluten-free cake and bread. He was pleasantly surprised and declared that he would be very happy to go there again. I should have taken a picture of it for my blip, but did not think about it at the time.

We did some shopping, well my husband did some shopping, as there was nothing I wanted and then we came home. Although it is cold out, it does not seem quite as cold as it has been for the last three days.

Today’s picture was taken as we walked back to the car; it is of The Star, a public house.
